Alberta Party Policies

The Alberta Party is built on the following foundational pillars: prosperity, fiscal responsibility, social responsibility, sustainability, democracy and quality of life. Read more details about the Alberta Party or about the Alberta Party policy.

The Alberta Party creates policy by hosting Big Listen meetings, open to all Albertans, regardless of political affiliation. We carefully record the hopes and pressures facing Albertans and this becomes the basis for our policies. The Alberta Party believes in finding balance and the common ground shared by all Albertans. We are not bound by a strict ideology, instead we are pragmatic and use a common sense approach. We believe Albertans deserve to be actively involved in shaping the future for our province.

We have released a series of policy documents that build on the feedback we heard from Albertans during the Big Listen and the Policy Directions passed by our members at our policy conference. These documents provide a summary of our party’s positions and priorities in the following areas:

  • Health: highlights prevention, local decision-making and making changes in a sensible way so that the system doesn’t go into shock. Sue provides a great summary of this policy in a short video here.
  • Education: describes how the Alberta Party will build a public education system that serves all students, ensures high literacy and completion rates, and provides opportunities to thrive.
  • Post Secondary Education: supports universal access for every qualified individual to affordable post-secondary education and training as a basic right.
  • Democratic Renewal: focuses on transparency, citizen engagement and restoring Albertans' faith in government.
  • Social: recognizes that government has a role to play in helping Albertans help themselves, build strong communities, end poverty and create meaningful lives for all.
  • Economy: creates a vibrant, resiliant & diversified economy, saving for the future and spending wisely.
  • Energy and Environment: combines Energy and the Environment into one comprehensive policy, optimizing our return on our resources and ensuring we have strong environmental protections in place.
  • Municipal Affairs: affirms the importance of local government with stable, predictable funding and creating a new relationship with the provincial government, based on respect.
  • Rural Communities: creates opportunities and viability for Alberta's rural communities.
  • Agriculture: ensures that agriculture remains a pillar of Alberta's economy and that we are leaders in feeding the world.
  • Land Use: supports the need for a comprehensive provincial land use framework, repeals the undemocratic Alberta Land Stewardship Act (Bill 36) and Land Assembly Act (Bill 19).

Finally, our policy work is on-going. We will never stop listening and refining our work, drawing upon the wisdom of Albertans and the best possible information to create policies that truly reflect the hopes and aspirations of Albertans, for today and for future generations.

Where do you stand on everything else?

For all issues that are not covered in the Alberta Party policies, Alberta Party MLAs are expected to vote according to their constituents' views. As your representative, Sue will be listening to your views and voting accordingly. Communication will be two-way and on-going after the election. She will not be simply voting the party line and then informing you of the decision after the fact. Sue works for you, not the party and she is committed to open, transparent and accountable governance.
