Sue served as Acting Leader for the Alberta Party from December 2010 to May 2011. For six months, she traveled the province extensively, meeting Albertans from all walks of life and doing countless media interviews. During her term, membership quadrupled (from 500 to over 2000), 44 constituency associations were established, and the Alberta Party welcomed its first MLA: Dave Taylor.
From 2007 to 2010, Sue served as a trustee on the Edmonton Public School Board. While on the board, she was a strong advocate for increased transparency and actively sought out new ways to increase the public's understanding of and participation in school board decisions. She was the first trustee to create a blog and to go on Twitter, an interactive social media platform. She was a strong advocate for vulnerable populations, including children with special needs, Aboriginal children, and those living in poverty. She strongly supported community schools and was instrumental in forming an environmental policy for the entire district. Sue consistently and passionately brought forward the issues affecting Ward C, in which the full Edmonton-Glenora constituency is contained.
Prior to entering politics, Sue worked in radio, television, film and theatre as a writer, an actor, and a director. One of her proudest artistic achievements is writing and directing a film for the National Film Board of Canada called "Kids Talkin' About Death." Her film was internationally recognized, and she has also received various awards for writing and acting.
Sue believes that Alberta is failing to meet its full potential and that the answers to Alberta's challenges lie with Albertans. She believes that strong communities will create a stronger province and that our goal should be to raise the prosperity of all people while protecting the natural environment we are all dependent upon. She believes that education is the cornerstone of all public policy because the more educated a society, the wealthier, healthier and more democratic it is. She believes that people are our greatest resource and that how we treat our most vulnerable is the true measure of who we are as a society. Sue believes in wise, accountable and open government.
Sue is 21-year resident of Westmount. She is married to Kevin, who works as a high school drama teacher, and they have two children, Josh and Hannah. In her spare time, Sue enjoys singing, playing guitar, camping, yoga, traveling, learning, reading, exploring, skating and walking her dog.
